Geraldine "Dean" Landriau, wife of Kenneth D. Landriau, of Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville, NC, died on Thursday, December 2, 2010. She was born in Albany, NY, the second child of Frank and Geraldine Bearup. She attended schools in Albany and graduated from the Milne School in 1948. Following high school, she earned an Associate in Science degree from Vermont Junior College in Montpellier, VT. She and Ken were married on Dec. 29, 1951, and eventually settled in Poughkeepsie, NY. In the 1970's, she returned to school and earned an AB in Art History from Vassar College. In 1989, she and her husband moved to Hendersonville, NC where she actively pursued her lifelong love of music, theatre, and art. She was an avid supporter of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra; she was a board member of the Art League of Henderson County serving as chairman of the Sidewalk Art Show and as League president; she was a board member of the National League of American Penn Women and served as president; and she was a board member of the Flat Rock Playhouse Supporting Players and served as president. She was also a skilled artist and many of her water color paintings received recognition and awards at various exhibits and shows in western North Carolina. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their seven children: Scott Landriau and wife Diane Love of Darnestown, MD; Leslie Riley of Wappingers Falls, NY; Janice Boegel and husband Mark of Mandeville, LA; Gary Landriau and wife Mary of Westfield, NJ; Carole Sleight and husband Bill of Staatsburg, NY; Diane Hoff and husband Lee of Cary, NC; and Susan Harbeson of Marysville, WA. She also leaves 17 grandchildren: Melissa, Drew and John Landriau, Larry and Laurissa Riley, Christophe Boegel, Megan, James and Sarah Landriau, Willie and Justin Sleight, Nicole, Kimberly and Michael Hoff, and Kyle, Connor and Clayton Harbeson. Other survivors include her sisters Lynda Porter of Castleton, NY and Ginny Skorupski of Matlacha, FL; and her brothers Tom Bearup of Shushan, NY and Peter Bearup of Babcock Lake, NY. She was predeceased by her older sister Nancy B. McDonough of Kittery, ME. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010 at St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield at 2:30pm with Reverend Morgan Gardner officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Geraldine's memory to the Flat Rock Playhouse, PO Box 310, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to The Clarke School for the Deaf, North Hampton, MA.

  5. I remember going to your house when I was in grade school, after school, or for birthday parties, and that you made us cookies! Thanks for being a great mom and raising great kids. So many people will miss you.

  6. i am sorry to hear of Dean’s passing. I worked with her at Vassar college when she was Assistant Dir. of Residence. We had a great time and she was a lovely person to work with. I also have several of her paintings which i cherish.

  15. We were so saddened to learn of Dean’s passing. We looked for you both at the last Dark Nite Revue and were disappointed that you weren’t there. You two have contributed so much to help make the Playhouse the wonderful place it is. We both feel so privileged to have known and worked with both of you. Your sense of community spirit and your enthusiasm to get things done were inspirational.

    Dean was quite a lady. She will be missed.

    Knowing that I was out of the country, Pat Wellborn sent me Dean’s obituary from the paper, which I have just opened. I was so very saddened to learn of her death. I think of you often when going past your home on the way to Jump Off Rock. I enjoyed working with Dean in the Art League – we did several projects together. Laurel Park has missed you both since you moved. You have my very deepest sympathy, Ken.
