Frederick "Ted" H. Whitehead

Frederick “Ted” Hugh Whitehead, 81, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at his residence.

Ted was born in New Haven, CT to the late John Francis Whitehead and Mary Joan McDevitt Whitehead. He grew up in Guilford Connecticut with his 2 brothers and one sister. His sister was his best friend in life and death. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lloyd B. Marsh, his brothers John Whitehead, and Jeffrey Whitehead, and his sister Susan Buchanan and her husband Briggs Buchanan.

Ted was a graduate of Syracuse University. He realized early in life that he wanted a career in hospitality and pursued it single mindedly. He lived and loved the hotel business for roughly 35 years and he excelled at it. Ted ended his career as the COO of a hotel company that he helped to bring out of chapter 11 and grow forward. After hotels, he loved his family and friends and was fiercely loyal. Those lucky enough to really know him loved him and he loved them as family. He valued honestly and loyalty in everyone he knew and expected the same in return. Ted never pretended to be someone he wasn’t, nor did he apologize for who he was. He loved to play golf and devoured New York Times Crossword puzzles like it was his job. Ted was a diehard lifelong fan of the NY Giants. He remained forever loyal to them weather they were first or (more commonly than not) last in the league. He would often refuse to watch games believing that to do so may help them win games.

Ted is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katherine Gould Whitehead; three children, Dana Whitehead Marsh, Rebecca Whitehead Richardson, and Timothy John Whitehead and grandchildren, Caroline Marsh McCarson (Cole), Lily Margaret Marsh, and Jack Patrick Marsh, Timothy Aidan Whitehead, and Frederick David Richardson.

No services are scheduled at this time but the family will have a private service later.
