Fred Albert Heinsohn, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. Fred was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1945, to the late Fred Heinsohn and Louise Faccini.
A New York City Native, Fred was raised in Brooklyn, and lived in Queens, where he met his wife Karen. They then moved to Lynbrook, Long Island, and lived there for many years until they moved to Asheville, North Carolina. While in New York City, Fred worked as an elevator operator for 25 years. He was an avid collector, especially of clocks, movies, and rifles. Fred was a family man, and loved country music and to going camping. He also had the amazing ability to fix anything.
Fred is survived by his wife, Karen; two children Freddie, and Wendy; and three grandchildren.
He will lie in repose at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave., Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. both days. A visitation at the funeral home will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.
Graveside Services will take place at Green Hills Cemetery on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Dean Cesa of Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church officiating.
