Frances Juanita Atkins “Mamaw” Boyd, 79, of 374 Starnes Cove Road, Candler, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at her home. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Allie Westmoreland Atkins and was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Boyd, who died in 1991. Mamaw was retired from Towne House Bakery after 27 years of service as a clerk. She was an enthusiastic gardener and great cook and canner. Mamaw was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her log house, her children and her many grandchildren. Survivors include five daughters, Judy McCracken and her husband Jim of Clyde, June Meyrowitz and her husband Edward of Black Canyon City, AZ, Joany Sauro and her husband Tommy of Lake Wateree, SC, Dena Randall and her husband Sam of Candler and Kenna Millsap and her husband Roger of Oakley; a son, Jack Boyd and his wife Vicki of Candler; two sisters, Sarah Arrowood of Candler and Darlene Ray of Fairview; three brothers, Harry Owensby, Tommy Atkins and Charles Atkins, all of Asheville; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Bobby Benson officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park with Tony McCracken, Jeff Penley, Scott Boyd, Josh Boyd, Jeremy Boyd, Eric Randall and Michael Robinson serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.I know it is hard, but just Remember that God will help you Through this, and Frances is in a Beautiful Place now with no more pain or worries.She can now walk Those Beautiful Streets of Gold and look down and watch over all her loved ones.

  5. Dena, Jack, Kenna, and all of Frances’ family members, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Frances was a wonderful kind warm person. That’s the way I remember her as I was growing up next door to all of you. I know what a close bond your family has always had, and I know she will be lovingly missed. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless each of you with his strength and love at this time. I know there are no words that can ease the sadness you must be feeling, but I also know that she will always be with you, watching out from above for each and every one of you, as she always did here on earth. I feel very lucky to have known her.
