Evelyn Holcombe Carter, 89, of Pisgah Manor Health Care Center, died Thursday, March 5, 2009. Mrs. Carter was born on October 29, 1919, in Asheville and was a daughter of the late Charles Affie and Bonnie Meadows Holcombe. She was married to the late Talmadge H. Carter and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Turner, sisters, Mary Chambers and Dorothy Ray and brothers, Charles Holcombe, and William T. Holcombe. She had been a volunteer piano player at both Aston Park and Pisgah Manor Health Care Centers for 27 years. She was a member at Faith Tabernacle. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Hearn of Candler; a grandson, Jimmy Hearn, of Tennessee, and a sister, Marjorie Stockton, of Fairview. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Watts officiating. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

  1. Sandy, I am so sorry about your loss. Evelyn was a Wonderful, loving person..I remember all the nights you and I used to spend together as kids..I remember her singing with the ‘Sweet Adelines’ and playing that piano…I also got to attend church with her and Talmadge for a while.I know what you are going through as I just lost Richard and I am the only ‘Immediate Family Member left’..Please accept out deepest condolences
