Eva Goldsmith Cagle, 84, of Asheville, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center. Mrs. Cagle was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Haskell and Vaughnie Cogburn Goldsmith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, H. Edward Cagle, sisters, Myrtle King and Beatrice Bradburn, and brothers, Troy, Herbert, and Birt Goldsmith. Mrs. Cagle was a retired seamstress and was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Eddie Cagle and his wife Vickie, of Fletcher; three daughters, Anita Stewart and her husband, Jack C., of Candler, Wanda Fisher and her husband, Rex, of Candler, and Arlene Clarke and her husband, Carl, of Brighton, MI; one sister, Blanche Elmore of Rockingham; one brother, Emmett Goldsmith and his wife, Garylee, of Asheville; six grandsons and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry S. Fisher and the Rev. Tommy Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Wanda Fisher, 131 Asvista Drive, Candler. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    Losing your mother is such a hardship, but since Eva had been so sick, her going home to be with the Lord was a blessing. Please know that you will be in my prayers. Let God help with the healing and the day will come when you can look back and remember your mom with a smile.

    I am so saddened to hear of your mother’s death, but do know she was so fortunate to have you as her daughter! You stood by her and attended to her in her last days even when she didn’t know it.
