Ernest Floyd Edwards, Jr., 74, of 2 Park South Blvd., Arden, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his residence. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Edwards was the son of the late Ernest Floyd, Sr., and Ethel Laughter Edwards. A graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, Mr. Edwards was retired Lieutenant with the Asheville Police Dept., where he spent 42 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of French Broad Baptist Church. Mr. Edwards is survived by his daughter, Talana Rice, of Woodfin; sons, Rock Edwards, of Arden, Chad Edwards, of Weaverville, and Ty Edwards, of Woodfin; brother, Charles Edwards, of Asheville; and two grandchildren, Christopher Kent, and Kourtney Edwards. A funeral service for Mr. Edwards will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Richard Baird officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery with rites performed by the Asheville Police Department Honor Guard. His family will receive friends for an hour and a half prior to the service at the funeral home.

  1. Rock, I worked with you at APD and was very sorry to read of your father’s passing. Although you will miss him every day, he will never really be gone as long as you remember him. May God comfort you and your brothers & sister.
