Erah Jones Ball

Erah Jones Rockett Ball, 105, formerly of 98 Ferry Road, Asheville, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at the WNC Baptist Retirement Home. Mrs. Ball was born June 24, 1897, in Knoxville, TN, and was a daughter of the late Thomas P. and Nancy Emma Jones. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was married to the late Carl Rockett who died in 1946 and George Irwin Ball who died in 1983. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was the oldest member of the Salvation Army, having joined in 1913 at the age of 16. She is survived by several cousins. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday at the Salvation Army Chapel with Lt. Col. David Holtz and Capt. Robert Lyle officiating. Burial will be at West Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the Salvation Army 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 204 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
