He is survived by his wife, Deborah Lyman; his daughter, Sterling Stevenson and her husband, John; his son, Ellsworth Rutherfoord Lyman III and his wife, Jennifer and four grandchildren, Banks and Mac Stevenson and Lillian and Katelyn Lyman.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 23 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, 72 Long Shoals Road in Arden. His family will greet friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.

Oh, Debbie, i hated to read this. Sandy and I played together from the time we were 4, and you and I became friends when you moved to Asheville. Love and hugs to you, Sterling, and Foord and your whole family. Sandy was something else-I can hear his laugh right now!
