Ellen "Suzi" Burrell Edwards, 65, of 280 Wooten Cove Road, Weaverville and formerly of 28 Longview Road passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at St. Joseph Campus Mission Hospitals. Suzi attended Asheville city schools and school in Virginia when she was young. She finished high school after she was married and had children. She went on to attend AB Technical College and Blue Ridge Technical College. She worked briefly with Southern Bell. She worked as a sales representative for Nabisco and took early retirement in 1986. She later worked with Sherwin-Williams and Smokey Mountain Petroleum where she retired in 2004. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Asheville Quilt Guild and was also a Brownie leader before she started work when her youngest child began school. She was a very talented person and enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, making afghans for every birth, marriage or special event for her large family and many friends, but her biggest love was quilting. Her largest talent was her love and thoughtfulness of her family and friends. She had family dinners every month for years hosting up to 20 people at a time. She did all of the cooking herself until this year when she became ill and had to cancel the last dinner. She will be missed by many, many people, but she will not be forgotten. Survivng are her husband of 48 years, Woodrow; two sons, Michael Edwards and wife Kimberley of Waynesville and Steven Edwards of Weaverville; three daughters, Maggie Aldefer and husband Tom of Alexander, Nikki Haney and husband Larry of Asheville and Tami Gould and husband Sean of Asheville; a sister, Betty Tabler and husband Don of Olympia, Washington; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. During her last six months of life she never once asked "Why me?" A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with Reverend Gerald Sprinkle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 10th floor Oncology Unit St. Joseph's Hospital c/o Memorial Mission Hospitals 428 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville NC, 28801.

    My sincere condolences to you all in the passing of (Suzi). I worked with her when i was a driver for Nabisco and she was always very kind to me. I still have a ceramic cup with my name on it that she gave me a long time ago and i shall always cherish it.

I know it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other or our paths have met, but I remember the ‘ ole days’ when we were all young and care free, and the closeness that I felt on Longview Dr, those days will remain in my heart forever.
