Ella Moore Spake of Fairview, NC, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 with her loving family at her side. Born April 1, 1921, she was a lifelong resident of Fairview and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She was a faithful homemaker and wife, a loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Spake, who was killed in an auto accident in 1972; step-daughter, Frances Quinn; parents, Willard and Mollie Conner Moore; and brothers, Garland, Floyd and Marvin Moore. She leaves behind her children, Clara Owenby and her husband, Chester, and Betty Crain of Fairview, Nancy Ingle of Asheville, Kathy Edmondson and her husband, Tom, of Arden and Robert Spake and his wife, Sonya, of Mills River. Also surviving are her sister, Ailene "Pal" Freeman and brother, Burgin Moore of Fairview; nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fairview with the Revs. Ron Roberts, Jim Whitted and Chester Owenby officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, PO Box 1454, Fairview, NC 28730.

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this sad time. My mother and Ella were friends, mom went home in September. They have probably found each other and are now re-connecting. What a wonderful thought.

  2. Ms. Ella was one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my life. She always made my day when I would see her on Thursdays delivering MOW. I will miss her terribly , my condolences go out to the entire family, especially Betty, Clara, Kathy, Robert and Nancy.What a wonderful family she had to take care of her. God bless you all!!

  4. As a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer for two and a half years, I always looked forward to seeing Ms Ella each week. She was one of the sweetest ladies I’ve known. She’s now out of pain now and in Heaven with her Lord. My prayers are with the family. I know they will miss her greatly.

  13. Aunt Ella was truly a wonderful person who touched every life of everyone she knew in a happy and positive way. She will be missed by all but never forgotten.
