Elizabeth Jane Hudson, 80, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
A native of Phoenixville, PA, Jane was the daughter of the late Francis Joseph and Elizabeth Tutor Gausch. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Charles “Chuck” Hudson Jr., who passed away in 2018, and by her brother, Michael Francis Gausch.
Jane devoted her life to caring for others. As an accomplished oncology nurse, she compassionately walked alongside countless patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments. Her dedication to excellence earned her the prestigious DAISY Award, certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), and induction into both the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society. She later fulfilled a lifelong goal by earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Drexel University, graduating with honors, a testament to her determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her profession.
While nursing was her calling, family was her greatest joy. To those who loved her most, she wasn’t defined by her awards or accomplishments. She treasured long conversations with her children, delighted in shopping and finding the perfect outfit, and loved creating memories while vacationing on cruises with family and friends. She had a way of making everyone she loved feel seen, valued, and deeply cared for.
Jane leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, faith, and service that will continue to inspire everyone whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her children, Charles Hudson (Karla), Jennifer Whicker (Mark), Matthew Hudson (Nancy), and Meghan Hudson; grandchildren, Rebecca, Charlie, Avery, Isabel, Luke, Corryn, Abigail, Riley, and Evan; and two precious great-grandchildren expected in December.
The funeral service and burial, with honors performed by the North Carolina Nurse Honor Guard, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you all. Being an oncology nurse is a special calling and it sounds like she was perfect for that specialty.
May the Lord give you all peace at this time and hold on to the hope we all have to see her again one day. Because He lives we will be able to face tomorrow. Hugs to all!
