Asheville Butterfly TrailMr. Elkins was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Rev. Charlie and Alice Walch Elkins. He was married to Wilsie McFee Elkins who died April 13, 1999. He was an Army veteran of WW II and retired in 1978 after 28 years at American Enka.
He is survived by three daughters, Frances Lance of Skyland and Lottie Smith and Margaret Taylor of Candler; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ed Worley and John Erwin officiating. Burial will be at Browns View United Methodist Church Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
I saw this in the paper at the time but didn’t know this site even existed until now. I am sorry for your loss, and hope it gets a little easier with time. My father was Ralph Elkins Edwins brother, and although we haven’t met I often wondered about dad’s family. Tommorow is the anniversary of dad’s death in ’93 so I understand your grief….
