Edward H. McGill, Sr., 66, of 24 Hilltop Drive, Candler, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, in an Asheville hospital after battling an extended illness. Mr. McGill was born in Spartanburg, SC, and was a son of the late William W. and Margaret Kearse McGill. He grew up at Connie Maxwell Childrens Home and attended Greenwood High School. He was a Marine Corps veteeran of the Korean War and was retired from BASF after 32 years as a graphic artist. He was a loving and humorous father, artist, and an avid golfer with his son and brother. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jane Hall McGill; two daughters, Celia Roseanna McGill of Durham and Mary Kathleen McGill of Swannanoa; one son and best friend, Edward Hoyt McGill, Jr. of Fairview; one granddaughter (his pride and joy), Alyssa Jade Wadham of Swannanoa; and one brother, Robert McGill of Candler. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Thurman and Gene Hall officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 7 - 9:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, PO Box 1178, Greenwood, SC 29646.
