Deane R. Hamrick
November 18, 1917 ~ February 13, 1999
Mrs. Hamrick was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Cassius B. and Stella Owenby Roberson. She was a graduate of Western Carolina Teachers College at Cullowhee and worked as a chemist at Eucusta Paper Co. during WW II. After that, she taught school in Buncombe and Henderson COunties and Dade County, FL, and taught in the gifted students program in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg system. She was a member of Calvary Baptist CHurch and was member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sosority. She was a former vice-president of volunteers for the UNC-A Botanical Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Hamrick; a son, William Michael Hamrick of Portland, OR, and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Rev. Dr. Ron Crawford and the Rev. Mary Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dr. James Martin, Jack A. Sorrells, O.D. Griffin, Jr., Richard A. Harcke, Arthur Heinmiller, James D. Morehead, and Tom Pressley.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, and request that memorials be made to the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, c/o 3 Pinecroft Lane, Fletcher, NC 28732, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802.
