Dale Eugene Smith, 69, of Souther Road, died Sunday, December 5, 2004, in an Asheville hospital after an extended illness.
Dale was born May 26, 1935, to the late Elmer and Eleanor Kessling Smith. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father-in-law, J.C. Baker, a brother, Leslie Smith and a sister, Martha Sherman.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Army 101st Airborne Division. He retired from the Grand Rapids, MI plant of Steelcase. He was instrumental in establishing the computer program systems with the Fletcher Steelcase plant. Dale was an avid fan of Michigan State University and also the Detroit Tigers. He love to golf and called Hawaii his second home. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. ALOHA
Surviving is his wife, Sandra Lee Smith and his children, David Smith, Cheryl Hudson, and her husband Larry, and Gordon Smith; one granddaughter, Charity Strahm, and her husband Shane. He is also survived by his mother-in law, Marian Baker.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Hooper’s Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawrence Rhodes and Robert Garren officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family will be at the home of Sandra’s mother, Mrs. Marian Baker, 404 Souther Road, Fletcher, NC.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
