CLETA M. MELTON
Cleta Merrell Melton, 86, of
82 Nebraska Avenue, Asheville,
passed away Monday, June 16, 2003
at St. Joseph Hospital after a brief
illness.
Mrs. Melton was born in
Madison County and was the
daughter of the late Tom and Etta
Silver Merrell, She was also
preceded in death by three brothers,
Merritt Merrell of Cashiers, James
Merrell of Tampa, FL and Zade
Merrell of Marshall and two sisters
Arie West of Landrum, SC and
Darcus Stockner of Richmond, VA.
She is survived by her
husband, Wilkie J. Melton of the
home; two sons, Jerry Melton of
Asheville and John Melton of Yancey
County; two grandsons, John and
Sam Melton of Yancey County; and
two sisters, Etta Tom Ammons of
Alexander and Iva St. John of Black
Mountain.
Funeral services will be at
11:00 am Thursday in the Patton
Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral
Home with the Rev. John W.
Ritenbaugh officiating. Burial will be
at Oak Hill United Methodist Church
Cemetery.
Her family will receive
friends from 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Wednesday at the funeral home.
