Cathy Hawkins, 73, a native of Buncombe County and resident of Givens Estates, passed away on June 16, 2026.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Houston A. Hawkins and Grace Virginia Ingle Hawkins, as well as her sister, Vickie Hawkins.

Cathy was a graduate of T.C. Roberson High School and worked for both Buncombe County and the City of Asheville in the Water Department. She was a voracious reader and loved her dog, Lenny. Cathy was a member of Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church. She will be fondly remembered as witty and funny, possessing a quiet brilliance.

She is survived by five first cousins, Debbie Parham, Gary McDonald (Judy), Ila V. McDonald, Janet McDonald (Bill Zink) and Cecil Ingle (Carolyn) and four second cousins, Marty Clark, Ricky Clark (Missy), Cheryl Jones (Michael) and Andrew McDonald (Melzina).

A Funeral Service will be held starting at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian location in Arden and will be officiated by Pastor Lisa Hartzog. Burial will be held at Roberts Memorial Park. Cathy’s family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cathy’s name to the Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church Choir, c/o 95 Brinson Lane, Arden NC 28704.

    God took you home faster than we expected but you will be with your mama & Daddy & with Vickie, You will be in a brand new body & free of all your physical ailments. I will miss our Friday night chats & our reminiscing about the good old days. Lenny will be well taken care of with Carolyn & Cecil. If you happen to see mama & Pawser & Earl & Shirley, Tell them I miss them & Marty is being a big help to me. I hope to see you all one day when God calls me home. Miss you already.
