Carolyn Josephine Howington

Carolyn Josephine Howington, 86, of Asheville, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

A native of Transylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Coy A. Sitton and Harriett Josephine Long Sitton. Carolyn was also preceded in death by her husband, Bud Howington, Jr., two sisters, Nettie Sitton and Margaret Sitton Pollard as well as a brother, Tommy Sitton.

Through Carolyn’s interest in family lineage and history came her love for genealogy. She spent many years researching information on both sides of her family. She was also an avid NASCAR and Atlanta Braves fan.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Bud Howington, III (Carole) of Arden; a grandson, Dillon Howington of Arden as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private Graveside Service will be held at Oak Forest Cemetery in Etowah.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
