Calvin Homer Wilkerson, 69, of Candler, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026 in Asheville.

A native of Polk County, but lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Calvin served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. He lived and enjoyed a simple life. He loved animals, cars and the outdoors. He and his partner of 40 years, Debbie Henderson, whom he loved and appreciated so much, would often jump in the car and just drive, with no planned destination. They enjoyed trips to the mountains, the beach and everywhere in between.

In addition to Debbie, Calvin is survived by his sister, Carolyn Halford (her husband, Mike); niece, Michele Cantrell; nephew, Justin Halford (his wife, Angie) and great-nephew, Gage Cantrell. Calvin was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Keres.

Burial will be private, but a celebration of life service for family and friends will be planned for a later date.

Flowers are appreciated, but for those who choose, memorial donations may be made to the Asheville Humane Society (www.ashevillehumane.org).

Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.
