Brenda Gail Haynes Harrell, 77, of Fletcher, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.

A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Doris Wright and Harold A. Haynes and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Parrott; one sister, Sandra Harolene Stepp; one brother, Carlton Trent Haynes and one son-in-law, Boyce Hensley.

Brenda retired from Mission/St. Joseph Hospitals, where she worked for many years as a registered nurse. Following her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering for many years at Mission. She had a strong faith and was a dedicated member of Skyland First Baptist Church. Brenda enjoyed sewing, puzzles and spending time with family and friends. She was everyone’s “solid rock in a little package” and was loved by all who were around her.

Brenda is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Joe J. Harrell; children, Teresa Hensley, Hugh Parrott (Loretta), Steven Parrott (Kira), Kimberly Harrell (Jason Black), Lee Anna Mull (Shannon) and Cindy Conner (Tommy); ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and special friend Martha Rickman.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8 at Skyland First Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Ponder officiating. Her family will greet friends at Skyland Baptist on Wednesday from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery in Waynesville. Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Conner, Trent Parrott, Levi Parrott, Cooper Parrott, Murphy Parrott, Kyser Black, Bryan Hensley and Hunter Hensley.

In lieu of flowers, her family graciously asks that memorial donations are made to either the Skyland First Baptist Church Building Fund (2115 Hendersonville Road, Arden, NC 28704) or to a charity of one’s own choice.

Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.

  6. I was so saddened to hear of Brenda’s passing. She was one of my preceptors when I started working at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a very patient ,caring nurse who truly exemplified one that truly cared for her patients as well as her co workers. My prayers are with her family.

  10. I am so very sorry to hear the passing of Ms Brenda. Her and Joe were both so loving and caring when I would come to visit the church. They made me feel like family every time. Skyland Baptist was my second home church. May God Bless You all in this time of grief.
