Robert Lewis Lee, Sr., 71, passed into eternal life Monday, October 21, 2002, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Bob was born to the late R.P and Ola Fryar Lee. He married his sweetheart Nancy Britt Lee in 1954 and they had two children, Melanie and Bob, Jr. Bob loved his family and his animals. Another great love was his music. The Bob Lee Trio played at the Poseidon Restaurant for over 20 years and also played many ballroom dances all over Western North Carolina. One of the hardest things in his illness was to give up his music. Bob also enjoyed raising canaries with Nancy and being with their bird friends. A member of Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church, Bob loved his church, his brothers and sisters there and Tony, their pastor. Bob fought a courageous battle with lung fibrosis the last several years. We are so thankful for the time we had together knowing that time was limited in God’s plan for Bob. His many friends and family members kept his spirits up with cards, visits, and prayers to show their love. Thank you so much. He is survived by his wife Nancy; son Robert (Bobby) Jr.; daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Bill Haney; one grandchild, Clint M. Haney; and his sister Wilma Anderson, all of Asheville; a special cousin, James Lee of Raleigh; and by his pets Worthless the dog, Callie the cat, and Buddy his parrot. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother, Ginger Wilson and Richard Lee. He will be deeply missed from our lives but the memories and love will sustain us until we meet again. We know he’s breathing deep the sweetest air he’s ever breathed and playing the most beautiful music of his life. We love you always. We wish a special thanks to Denise and Brenda of VHP, the Blue Ridge Crew and Linda Harwood. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church on Aiken Road, Weaverville, with the Rev. Anthony Reggi and James Lee officiating. Directions: Highway 19-23 North, take Newbridge Exit; on Merrimon Avenue North go to top of hill and turn left to Ashelawn Cemetery, take right fork, church is on the right. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church, 880 Aiken Road, Asheville, NC 28804.
