Betty Ruth Frisbee Lunsford, 92, of Asheville, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born to the late James “Jim” and Pauline Frisbee, Betty lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. She was also preceded in death by her son, Scott Lunsford.
As a devoted wife of 48 years, a beloved mother, and a proud Nannie, she built a life centered around caring for the people she loved most. She was the heart of her family—a steady, comforting presence whose love shaped generations.
Her greatest joy was her family. She poured herself into every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, offering guidance, warmth, and unwavering support. Whether through shared meals, sitting beside her in conversation, or simply sharing in everyday moments, she created a home filled with love that will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
She had a special appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Her garden was one of her favorite places to be, where she lovingly grew flowers and vegetables, later filling her pantry with homemade canned goods from her harvest, creating meals and memories that brought her family together. Many will remember her sitting on the front porch (at her home or at the lake), always ready with a smile, a listening ear, or a wave to a neighbor. Music was the soundtrack of her life—songs filled her home and her spirit.
Her laughter was one of her most unforgettable gifts—joyful, contagious, and full of life. It could brighten any room, lift heavy hearts, and turn even the simplest moments into cherished memories.
Though she may be gone from our sight, her love remains a guiding force. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the traditions she created, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness, steady strength, and grace. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited in heaven, and resting in the presence of her Savior.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Larry James Lunsford; her daughters: Brenda Ellege (Edwin) of Asheville, Patty Shook (Calvin) of Leicester, and Bridgette Rice (Tony) of Leicester; her sons: George West (Lisa) of Seneca, SC and Jimmy Lunsford (Anna) of Roan Mountain, TN; her daughter-in-law, Julie Lunsford (widow of Scott) of Leicester; as well as 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. And her best friend/caregiver whom the family has been so grateful for, Diane Lawrence.
The family will received friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastors Jacob Ellege and Chad Ellege officiating. Interment will follow at Teague’s Chapel Cemetery.
The family welcomes flowers, or contributions may be made to Teague’s Chapel as a tribute to her life: Teague’s Chapel, PO Box 533, Leicester, NC 28748.
