Betty Jo Jackson, 90, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026.

A native of Black Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Murphy Abraham Forbes and Jessie Belle Hall Forbes. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, James W. Lowe Sr and Ronald Jackson.

She is survived by one daughter, Gail Plemmons (Terry); two sons, James W. Lowe Jr (Karen) and Elmer Eugene Lowe (Kelly), sisters Marilyn Freeman, Maryevelyn Cable (Clyde) and Peggy Sayles (Bill); brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Dale Jackson (Kathy), Brian Jackson (Lisa), David Jackson (Lisa), Cleta Lowe and Larry Jenkins (Patty); nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Betty was a member of the Hendersonville Church Of God and enjoyed gospel singing with her family and friend. She was a talented seamstress and took great pride in being a prayer warrior and helping people. She had a heart of gold and tended to both of her husbands before they each passed away. Betty loved everyone and will be forever loved by her family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 12 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oakley. Her family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:00 PM.

Her family wishes to extend a special thanks to nurses Kim, Ivy and Payton for their loving and exceptional care of Betty.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made to the WNC Bridge Foundation, 294 Overlook Road, Asheville NC 28803.

  5. Betty Jo, I can remember you when I was little and you and uncle jay would come over I always thought my dad and jay were brothers because that slick black hair. I can remember you loved to sing and you were a very loyal and dedicated woman to your family, church, husband and most of all them grandchildren. I know you will be missed so much and times ahead is going to be unbearable at times. The kind of kids you raised will see you again as god came first and you made sure your kids knew the lord and his praises. I hope you are rejoicing in that beautiful place heaven with granny Forbes and grandpa Murph. I bet dad’s already telling jokes up there being silly as always. It’s not goodbye but goodnight for now.
