Barbara Coulson

Barbara Coulson 96 years of age passed away at her home on Monday, October 12, 2026. Barbara was born February 14, 1930 in New Jersey and was preceded in death by her parents Elsie (Elizabeth) and Harry John Glaser, sisters Virginia Tracy, Jeanne Durkee, and brother Daniel Glaser. She met and later married Tom Coulson on May 7, 1955 in Orlando, Florida where their five children were born. They moved to Cocoa Florida and then in 1975 they relocated to Durham, NC where Tom pursued a career in the Physician’s Assistant program at Duke University. After that, they settled in Asheville, NC.

Barbara was active in and contributed to many causes that worked for the good of humanity including the Madison County League of Women Voters, USA for UNICEF, and Amnesty International. She was an Admissions Manager at St. Joseph’s Hospital for many years. After retiring she and Tom traveled the Country to participate in activist endeavors and to vacation in our beautiful country.

She leaves behind her husband of 71 years Thomas Coulson II, daughter Anne (Kathy) of Eutawville, SC; son Thomas III (Linda) of Marshall and Anderson, Theresa Wilkes (Kevin) of Inman, SC; and fraternal twins Janet Coulson of Weaverville, NC and Jamie Coulson of Duncan, SC.

No services are scheduled at this time and Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
