Barbara Barnes Harmon, 62, of 397-F New Haw Creek Road, Asheville, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at the Hospice Solace Center.
Mrs. Harmon was born in Avery County and was a daughter of
Robert Clay and Elsie Wright Barnes
of Asheville. She was preceded in
death by a son, Matthew Scott
Harmon in 1973. She was a legal
secretary for 17 years with the Russell & King Law Firm in Asheville and was a member of Chapter 179, Women of the Moose.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Spivey Wellmon of Asheville
and Suzanne Spivey Hartwell of
Kannapolis; two sons, Robert A.
Spivey of Asheville and Michael N.
Harmon of Huntersville; four
grandchildren, Richard Michael
Wellmon, Brandon Russell Wellmon,
Kristopher Mark Lunsford, and
Melissa Nicole Hartwell; a sister
Louise O’Neal of Bethel; and a
long-time family friend Margie Kirtley and friend Larry Kakenawash.
A memorial service will be at 6:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton
Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral
Home with the Rev. Ebb Jenkins and
Mr. William Russell officiating.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service and
at other times will be at the residence.

Barbara was such a wonderful woman. I will miss her very much. She loved her family and was so proud of her children. She was also very wise. She was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.Have not seen the family in a while but have fond memories of times me and Robert had growing up!!! Darrell
Barbara was a wonderful lady and a true friend. All who knew her
will be deeped sad. My GOD bless each of you.
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Barbara. However, given her fight with cancer, I know she is better off. I worked with Barbara for 3 1/2 years at Russell & King and knew her to be a wonderful person who will be missed by all who knew her. Please accept my condolences to her family and close friends.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful woman!! So full of life and enjoyed it so very much. She always made me feel welcome and like one of her own children while I was in her home. It has been a long time since I have seen or talked to you and I don’t know the circumstances that took her away from you but, I will share in your grief.
Barbara was such a wonderful person and friend. I have known her for over 30 years. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Dear Harmon family, I am married and living in Texas. My mom told me yesterday about your mother and I was so sad. I really loved your mom. She was a good friend to me when I worked at Russell and King. I hope I was as good a friend to her as she was to me. We shared some good times together. I’ll never forget her. Although we haven’t seen one another for many years, I do have many memories of our young years together. Loosing your mother is not easy and I wanted each of you to know that you are in my prayers.
