Azalea P. Casteel

Mrs. Casteel was born in Copperhill, TN, and was a daughter of the late Newton Carter and Savannah Smith Powell. She was married to W. French Casteel, who died in 1983. Mrs. Casteel was a former school teacher and, with her husband, also operated French’s Variety Store on Haywood Road. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Grace Powell Garton of Tyler, TX; a brother, Joseph H. Powell of Memphis, TN; a step-son, William F. Powell, Jr. of Dayton, TN; two step-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson officiating.
Graveside rites will be at 4:30 pm Friday at Green Hills Cemetery in Etowah, TN.
Her family will receive friends from 10 - 11:00 am Friday at the funeral home.
Ms. Casteel was my teacher in life…I will not soon forget that. All heaven welcomes her I am sure as did all of the children whose lives she touched. I am blessed for being fortunate enough to have known her
