Alma Owenby Twiss, 89, of 170 Sigmon Road, Fairview, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital.
A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Maggie McAbee Owenby. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, George E. Twiss; a step-son, Everett Twiss of Fairview; two step-grandchildren, Rodney Twiss and Terrell Twiss; one step-great-granddaughter, Savannah Twiss; a sister, Elizabeth Lawter of Mills River and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with the Reverend Harry J. Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Antioch Christian Church, 849 New Haw Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28805 or the American Heart Assoc., Memorial Center, PO Box 5216, Glenn Allen, VA 23058.

Alma was a wonderful friend to my parents, W.E. and Veenie Ledbetter. She was a talented christain lady who worked so hard but yet loved to share the fruits of her labor.
Our Prays and thoughts go out to all of the family and friends. She was a wonderful and special person.
