Allyn McIntosh Aldrich, 88, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Mr. Aldrich was born in Denver, Colorado to the late Arthur and Virginia McIntosh Aldrich. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Aldrich and a sister, Vernice Jaeffi.

Allyn was a former Aerospace Engineer and a Director at Kearfott Corporation. He had worked on every major space program in the 20th century including the moon launches and space shuttle. He held several patents. He was an early model airplane flyer who wrote design articles for model airplane magazines when he was in school. He also enjoyed working on his cars, as well as building additions onto and upgrading areas inside of his homes.

He was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church, with Grace Episcopal in Asheville being the most recent. He had worked with ABCCM as a financial counselor. He was very active in healing ministries and Bible learning, often traveling with his wife to where people needed healers.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and traveling and in his later years spending a lot of time in Arizona with friends. He lived with his family in Italy during the early 1970’s and, and after living in Illinois & California, moved to Asheville in the early 2000’s. He considered Asheville to be the best place to live of all the places he had resided in during his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Aldrich; two sons, Kevin Jon Aldrich (Marla McGinnis) and Eric Steven Aldrich (Mary); a daughter, Katherine Heather Jacobson Soto (Alejandro); seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Diana Aldrich.

Guestbook

  1. I was a Facebook friend of Allyn’s. I think we disagreed on everything, but I sure enjoyed our differing views. I know I will meet Allyn one day when I pass. God bless you, Allyn. Until we meet.

  2. We just reread Al’s personal book “The First 68 Years” and again realized how much good living he packed into his life. He was my mentor and boss at Sundstrand. I attended over 35 SAE-A6 Committee Meetings throughout the country with Al while Joan and my wife helped entertain our clients. After retirement, they would visit us in their 5th wheel in Wisconsin or in Rockford or have a long phone visit. I will truly miss my conversations with my old friend. Heartfelt condolences to the entire Aldrich family that meant the world to him.

  3. Allyn was a dear friend and I thank God that he and Joan were placed into my life. Allyn was full of zest for life, always curious, always adding to his already vast knowledge of so much, always challenging, and always full of wisdom and sound advice. One time I visited him with my then 11 year old grandson who was fascinated by the swords he owned. He took the patience and time to teach him about the swords. Allyn had a big heart for the underprivileged and served at such at ABCCM. He helped where he could. He left an impact on this earth and definitely left prints on my heart. I thought I would make it to his birthday as I moved away, and it saddens me that I didn’t get to meet him one last time. But we talked on the phone and he was always upbeat. A true inspiration. Coming into God’s presence he will hear ” well done, my faithful servant” . He will be missed.
