Wylma King Franklin, 82, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024.

A native of Buncombe Co., Wylma was a daughter of the late Green and Cordelia Sharp King. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harold Dean Franklin, with whom she owned and operator Franklin’s Shoe Shop, in Leicester, for 43 years. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Virgie Sams and Rosa Lee Johnson; and brothers, Hardie “Sanford” King, Donald King, Robert King, Cliff King and Junior King.

Mrs. Franklin is survived by her daughter, Gina Woody (David); grandson, Davey Woody (Brianna); great-grandchildren, Nessie Woody and Noah Woody; bonus grandchildren, Brittany Hendrix, Josh Brown, Dustin Cooper and David Cooper; bonus great-grandchildren, Landon Brown, Kennedy Hendrix and Landry Brown; sister-in-law, Reta Hendrix (Artie); bonus son and daughter-in-law, Don and Deb Cooper; special niece, Audrey Turbyfill; special nephew, Joe King and his family; and many other family members.

Mrs. Franklin’s family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. The Revs. Dean Rice, Tom Dorsey and Matthew Sams will officiate. Burial will then take place at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

  1. We are sorry for your loss. She was precious. I loved our time together shopping and laughing mostly those memories of some good food she could cook. Blessed and Thankful. I know she is having a time now that she is with sweet Harold and his new body running the streets of gold.
