Mary Wylene Smith, 91, of 52 Will Smith Lane, Leicester, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Campus Mission Hospitals.
A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the William J. and Etta Martin Smith. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Geter Kuykendall; and brother, Arnold Smith. Ms. Smith retired from American Enka, and was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church.
Ms. Smith is survived by her good friend, Lester Kuykendall.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Ricky Townsend, Gordon Ball, and Ray Hipps officiating.
Her family will receive friends following the service in the church.

I will always cherish all of my memories with my Aunt Wylene and her stories of her travles around the world.
We wish to extend condolances on the loss of a great lady.
You will be missed by your friends from American Enka Plant – Bob Steelman, Irene Fite, Irene Pressley, Madge Cooper, Martha Case, Jean Jones and Mary Israel.
I will always remember our trip to New York. My Mom, Dad, Wylene and Lois. I have photos of us made on the top floor of the Empire State building. I was 10 years old.
I will always remember Wylene as a lovely, graceful lady. Her presence immediately gained respect and honor. Since childhood Wylene and Mr.and Mrs. Kuykendall were always and will continue to be three of my most favorite people. I’m sure heaven had a wonderful reunion among the three of them.
Wylene was a great lady!I meet her when i was just a young girl and she was such a loving and caring person. I am so happy to have known her. Anyone that knew her was lucky. I will still think of her kindness and love always.
