William M. Godfrey

He was born August 24, 1902 in Laurens County, SC,  he grew up in Woodruff, SC, lived in Asheville from 1927 until 1942 then back to Greer, SC, until returning to  Asheville in
1978. He was a son of the late Charles Freeman and Omie Searcy Godfrey.

He was preceded by three wives, Mary Etter Anders Godfrey, Annie Alfred Godfrey and Augusta Hyatt Godfrey, and was also preceded in death by a daughter Sufrona Crisp and a son Maskell Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey was a
former employee of Dobson Lumber Company in Greer and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Leicester.

He is survived by a daughter Vever Jones of Asheville; a son Walter Godfrey of Foley, Alabama; two brothers Henry Belton Godfrey of Greenville, SC, Albert Godfrey of Woodruff, SC; nine grandchildren, twelve great- grandchildren and ten great great-grandchildren.

Local services will be 6:00 pm
Monday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Ansel Center and Mike Scroggs  officiating.

His family will receive friends following the service.Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday in Wood Memorial Park, Greer, SC, under the direction of Wood Mortuary. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
