William "Dub" Jay Thompson

William “Dub” J. Thompson, 92, of Asheville N.C. passed away on January 16th 2021.

Dub was born on September 11th 1928 to William and Cordie Thompson in Asheville N.C. After his service in the Army, he worked at Dave Steel until he retired. He was a member of the Grove Park Inn Country Club and was an avid golfer having made 9 holes in one. He loved all sports, especially the Tarheels. Dub was a member of Montmorenci United Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and his beloved son, Mark. He is survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him. He will be especially missed by his special friend Carolyn Sorrells who lovingly cared for him his last 2 years of his life.

A memorial service is scheduled for January 28th at 11:00 AM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road, Arden N.C. Pastor Karen Kurtz will officiate. There is a limit of 50 attendees, and masks are required.
