William David LaMore, Sr., 70, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019.

A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Weldon Phillip and Hilda Mutton LaMore.

William was a Veteran of the US Army, having served during Vietnam. He went on to become an ordained minister and a clinical chaplain. He worked for many years as a Pastoral Visitor at Mission Hospital, CarePartners, The Laurels of Greentree Ridge and Craggy Prison, just to name a few. He also enjoyed putting on benefit car shows, which raised money for local charities.

William is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janis Smith LaMore; one son, William “Billy” David LaMore, Jr. and his wife, Chantel; two grandchildren, Tegan LaMore and Phoenix LaMore; one sister, Lynn; one brother, Phillip, as well as many extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 20 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian and will be officiated by Bishop Dennis Pitts. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 21 at Lewis Memorial Park.

Flowers are appreciated, but for those who choose, a memorial donation may be made to a charity of one’s own choice.

  2. Bill was an awesome man even in High School ! Riding up and down Tunnel Rd was one of the favorites ! Bill introduced me to my late husband Robert L. Earwood In 1968 ! Bill is with Angels now ! God Bless Janis and Billy as they go through this journey ! Sending my Luv to all !!!

  3. Bill was a special man. I can’t remember alot of specifics from my high school years,but I know we were friends. I had dinner with his sister Lynn and her husband, in Hawaii 2004. Prayers for your family.

  13. My deepest sympathy to Bill’s family in his passing. Bill and I were two years apart at Reynolds and I remember him well. He had integrity and was always steady in what he did.   14. Prayers for Janis, Billy, Chantel, and the grandkids and all family members. Bill was a very inspirational person in my life with how I raise my children because he did such an amazing job raising Billy. I love this family more than they will ever know, you all are in my prayers.

  17. Billy was my close neighbor and friend. I have so many memories of playing cards, flag football, and ice creams at the drugstore run by his mom and dad.I’m praying for his family.
