William “Danny” Fitzgerald, of Asheville, NC, passed away on October 6, 2024, after a courageous health battle.
He was born in Biltmore, NC, in 1938 to Vivian and Bill Fitzgerald. After graduating from A.C. Reynolds High School in 1957, he founded and ran with his father Fitzgerald’s Brake Supply, next to McCormick Field, for over 30 years.
After retirement, he opened D&J Auto Sales and also developed several neighborhoods in the Leicester area. He served in the National Guard Reserves and was a member of the Oasis Shriners and the Masonic Temple. He was also a member of West Asheville Baptist Church and the Praise and Prayer Sunday School Class.
He was happiest at the beach, riding his bike with the sunshine all around him. His sense of humor and big heart will be missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Luckadoo Fitzgerald; and his daughter, Jennifer Fitzgerald.
His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, at West Asheville Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Tony Hooper will officiate. Interment will then take place at Green Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to West Asheville Baptist Church or the Prostate Cancer Foundation are appreciated.

Judy and Jennifer, you are in our thoughts and prayers as we have learned of Danny’s passing. We have many fond memories of our times together at Newfound. Our prayer is that God will wrap his loving arms around you and give you comfort and peace during the weeks and months ahead.
Danny was my mother’s neighbor for many years. He was kind, and always willing to help anytime their little neighborhood needed help. May the Lord comfort you, Judy & Jennifer, in this sad time. He will be missed but his faith in the Lord assures us we will see him again.
