Willard Paul Lunsford, 97, of Candler, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Pisgah Manor.
A native of Buncombe Co., he was a son of the late Melvin and Nola Spivey Lunsford. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Cagle Lunsford; sisters, Berta Garrison, Lucy Skyles, and Evelyn Silvers; and brothers Jack Lunsford, Troy Lunsford, and Lawrence Lunsford.
Mr. Lunsford was retired from Southern Railway, after 42 years of service. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Mr. Lunsford is survived by daughters, Peggy Brown and husband, Jack, Nell Keith and husband, Harlon, and Beth Cottingham and husband, Rufus; grandchildren, Sandra Stanton and husband, Greg, Kelly Allen and husband, Richard, David Brown and wife, Marsha, Lydonna Benner and husband, Gary, Tony Keith and wife, Michelle, Chad Hensley and wife, Theresa, and Keena Hyatt; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Allison, Lana, Kim (Wes), Crystal, Tonya, Christian (Brooke), Sierra, Brandon, and Josh; great-great granddaughters, Jadein, Cloe', and Kaitlin; and sister, Martha Ann Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Everette Haney officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 50 Rice Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
May the family be comforted by knowing when we lost Willard, heaven gained another angel. He will be missed by all who knew him. I hope he gets together with my Mom and Dad again.I’m sure they have more tales to share.
Peggy and family, we are so sorry to hear of the death of your father. He surely lived a good life to have raised you, Peggy, and we are thinking of you at this difficult time.

Such a gentleman. Always polite and full of mischief. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with each member of the family. Each one of the family were faithful and loyal to both Mom and Dad and for this I applaud you all. My love to each of you.
So sorry to hear of Willards passing. I always thought a lot of Annie and him.. I am Eva Spivey Masters granddaughter. Praying for your comfort in this sorriful time.
We are so sorry to hear of Willard’s passing. Willard and Annie are two of the most loving and caring people from my childhood. We love you all and are lifting you up in our prayers.
Dear Family Sorry to read of Willard’s death. Your mom and dad were like second parents to us. Now not only were our parents life long friends here on earth they are forever friends in heaven. You just know that Dad and Willard are having a wonderful time together again while Mom and Annie just shake their heads. Love and prayers to all of you.

Papaw was such a wonderful, sweet, and funny man. He will be deeply missed. It was a priveledge to have known him.
