Mrs. Willa Deane Hughes, 91, of The Oaks at Sweeten Creek, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, April 23, 2015.
Mrs. Hughes was born on April 29, 1923 in Rocky Fork, TN. She was a member of Aaron Baptist Church in Asheville, NC.
Mrs. Hughes was the daughter of the late George and Emma Ann Effler. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Effler; and by her brothers, Charles, Donald, Ronald, and Graham Effler.
Mrs. Hughes graduated from high school in TN, and she played forward on the basketball team. Mrs. Hughes attended Warren Wilson College where she received a degree in business. She spent most of her life (over 30 years) as the receptionist to her husband, John, at Hughes Blind and Awning Company in Woodfin, NC. Mrs. Hughes was also in home healthcare for many family members and elderly folks in the community.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Hughes of Asheville; her daughters, Debbie McCoy and husband Terry of Leicester, and Gayle Crigger of Asheville; grandson, Lucas; sister, Nadine Moore of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday in the chapel of Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton and the Rev. Allen Rash officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m Sunday in the chapel, prior to the service.

Debbie & Family, I’m so sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. I’ve prayed for her for years and Mr. Hughes too. She is at peace now with no more sickness, no more pain, no more tears and no more worries. She was as pretty as she was sweet. I’ll always remember her kindness.
