Walter Louis Smith, 86, of Asheville, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Oaks at Sweeten Creek. Walter was born in Buncombe County to the late William M. Smith, Sr. and Molly Moleta Buckner Smith and is also preceded in death by a brother, William M. Smith, Jr. and a sister, Doris. He was a building contractor and attended Reed Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Mike Smith of Hendersonville and David Smith of Arden; daughters, Betty Sue Smith of Asheville and Anita Smith of Richmond, VA; 8 grandchildren; brothers, Charles Smith of Richmond, VA and Rev. George Smith of South Carolina. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road, with his Brother, Rev. George Smith officiating. His family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the Smith family.

  4. Dear Smith family, I was saddened to see Walter’s obituary in the Asheville Citizen-Times. I remember working with him at our store , Pearlman’s Carpet years ago. He always was a lovely , fine and honest gentleman. I know you will miss him, he was such a nice man, always kind to me during our dealings with flooring for the homes he built.
