Virginia Setzer Walker, 85, of Candler Heights Road, Candler,
went to be with the Lord at Autumn
Care of Waynesville on Saturday,
December 7, 2002.
Mrs. Walker was born in Haywood County to the late Charles and Nora Wood Setzer on August 10, 1917 and lived most of her life in
Buncombe County. She was the wife
of Henry Walker who passed away on
January 18, 1975. She was also
preceded in death by a son Charles
Walker, two infant daughters, a
granddaughter Virginia Hughes
Tabor, a great-grandson Robert
Harverson, five brothers, Howard,
Hill, C.J., Matt and twin brother Virgil Setzer, and two sisters Hattie Young and Rebecca Wooten.
Surviving are two daughters, Martha Lea Hughes and her husband Bob of Candler and Marie Walker Stanberry of Hendersonville; a son, William Walker and his wife Joann of Lake Alfred, FL; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Sadie Setzer and Margaret Setzer and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Wesleyan Church of Candler for more than 60 years where she taught Sunday School for more
than 40 years and where she was
former president of Women’s Mission
Society for over 40 years. She loved her church, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church with the Revs Don Milstead, Tom Harding and Edsel Burgess officiating. Burial will be in
the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 9:00 pm Friday, December 13, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kids Club and Youth
Group, Mt. Moriah Wesleyan Church,
1 Fairmont Road, Candler, NC 28715.
The family wants to thank Dr. John Stringfield and staff at Autumn Care of Waynesville for everything they did for her. Also Dr. Clay Ballantine and the Residents of
Mission/St. Joseph Hospital.

Virgina and Henry helped me and my
parents out so much in the late
thirties and early forties. She was a Saint if there ever was one. I am
so lucky that I got to visit her earlier this year. May the Lord be
with the family and God Bless.

Where can I begin? Your Mother was a Godsend to me, my sister & brother. We lived on Upper Indian Branch Road and had to walk to Candler School back in the 50’s. She would always have a kind word to us, as well as cookies and Koolaid many times. You all were older, but were around also, as was Charles. It has now been many years and her influence still remains as I strive to be kind to everyone!! May God bless all of you.
