Victor Anthony Trotta, 84, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at the CarePartners Solace Center, Asheville. Born in Hackensack, NJ, he was a son of the late Vito Anneillo Trotta and Carmella Manggini Trotta. He served in the US Army from 1955 – 1957 and was a former high school business teacher and track coach in Kinnelon, NJ. In 2012 he was made a member of the Kinnelon High School Sports Hall of Fame. Victor loved fishing and was a licensed Captain of the Sea Fever, a sport fishing boat out of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. The Coast Guard licensed him for up to 500 miles out. In addition, he drove a Greyhound Scenic Cruiser bus. Vic and his friend, Bucky Whritenour operated a small bar and grill in Butler, NJ, called the Whale & Tale. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan Trotta, a sister, Jean Cooper of Upper Saddle River, NJ, his beloved "foster" daughter, Lucia Cota of Simpsonville, SC, and his faithful cat "Buddy". A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa at 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carepartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
