Theresa Marie Saunders

theresa saunders
Candler - Theresa Marie Saunders, 41, of Candler, passed away Monday, April 5, 2004, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Though born August 11, 1962, in metropolitan South Florida, she was a country girl at heart and gladly called the mountains of Western North Carolina her home since she was 15 years old. She was the daughter of Arthur and Amy Huber, Sr., of Cruso, NC and the daughter-in-law of Don (now deceased) and Colleen Saunders of Asheville. Theresa graduated from Pisgah High School in Canton in 1980 and then from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1984 with her Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Theresa worked at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, where she held various nursing positions, from the operating room to the recovery ward. Theresa, a dedicated wife and mother, is survived by her husband and best friend, Todd Saunders; her four children, Megan, Seth, Justin and Nathan, ages 15, 14, 11 and 7; her mother and father; five brothers and sisters, Art Huber, Jr. of Georgia, Eric Huber of Cruso, Karl Huber of Burlington, NC, Billy Huber of Canton, GA and Michelle Stith of Pittsboro, NC. She was a loving aunt to over a score of nieces and nephews and beloved by her many in-laws. A Wake Service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday at St. Eugene's Catholic Church followed by the family visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said by the Rev. Francis T. Cancro at 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Eugene's Catholic Church, followed by a reception in the social hall. Nursery care will be provided to those with small children during both services. The interment will be in New Cruso Cemetery, next to Cruso United Methodist Church on US Highway 276 South in Cruso, NC at 2:00 pm Wednesday. Theresa spent time in Honduras ministering to children with medical needs. Therefore in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Interplast, the organization that partners with medical caregivers to provide this care, by calling 1-888-467-5278 or on the Internet at www.interplast.org. (Interplast, 300 Pioneer Way, Suite B, Mountainway, CA 94041.) Theresa loved life, but she loved the Lord more. She brightened every room she entered with her smile and left a lasting glow long after she left. She embraced life with zest and intensity. Theresa was proud of her children, her husband and her extended family. With her great, compassionate heart she communicated love to everyone she met. She was cherished, in turn, by family, friends and co-workers alike. She will be sorely missed, but we know she is singing and dancing with her dear Jesus, giving glory to God, in life forever.

We are so sorry about Theresa. She was such a joy to be around. She made me think of 2 Timothy 1:7 ‘For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.’ I doubt that she ever met a stranger and she made everyone she talked to feel important. (She made great salsa, too!) We will keep you all in our prayers.
    Love in Christ,
Mary Ann, Albert and William Wilds

  26. I miss you Theresa, but the song of your spirit will always play in my heart…I Can Only Imagine…catch you later, Trish

  27. Teresa was an incredible person to meet and talk to. She made a lasting impression. During the 2 family reunions over the last 13 years she was always in the middle of the action. She was an in-law and she was the one getting psyched for another renion! She cracked me up with her voice. Amongst all the Minnesota long ‘o’s’, she could get it going with her southern drawl. It is great knowing her. I look forward to meeting her again. May Todd & kids have strength and may her memory live in you forever.

  28. Dear Saunders Family,

  35. Dear Todd and Children,
As we make our way along in life, there are a few people who leave a lasting impression – Theresa was one of those. It was my pleasure to share the microphone with her at the Hominy Valley Football games. Last season I was even fortunate to sing a duet with her. God truly blessed her with many gifts and you will hear of them for years to come. May God give you comfort and peace.

    In Christ,
    The Weeks Family
    Drew, Connie, Zach and Kyle

  37. Dear Megan, Seth and Family,
I fondly remember teaching each of you at Candler. Seth, you were strong, outgoing and thoughtful. Megan, you were incredibly sensitive, compassionate, and so lovely. Both of you were incredibly bright and energetic. All of those traits are tributes to your exceptional mother. It is such a terrible loss for all of us, but it is comforting to know she will live on in her equally exceptional children. I will keep you in my prayers.

  44. Dear Cookie,
Trying to offer words of comfort to your Family at this time is so hard….So I hope they’ll understand why I’m writing to you instead. Nothing will ever take away the feeling of emptiness and deep sorrow they feel right now ‘? but I hope that with time their hearts will start to mend and their thoughts of you will bring smiles instead of tears. Please know that you are in my family’s prayers ‘? and know that you have a wonderful, strong, faithful Family that will make sure Todd and the children are loved and protected always. I pray for them all and ask that He give them strength to help them through this difficult time.
You’re clearly very special as He couldn’t wait to take you home ‘? God’s speed my friend ‘? and smile down on us always!

    Love Tracy.

  46. I would like to begin by saying how much Teresa will be missed by all of us. She was and will always be an eternal light in our hearts. If there were one wish that I have, it would be to burden all the pain her family and friends feel…. I can’t recall a time that Teresa didn’t enter a room without a smile and friendly gesture. I can’t remember a time she didn’t stop the world for a child in need. My hope is that ‘we’?, take a moment to ask ourselves what we can do to be more like Teresa. God bless the Saunders family and God bless Teresa.

Now, we need not pray for her again, as she is safely home in heaven. But we do remember you as a family and ask God’s comfort and grace to sustain you. My last memories of her will be when she coached her little basketball team against mine. Theresa was so alive, so full of energy. How we will miss her!

  55. Dearest Meagan,
Though our prayers and hopes were for your mother to recover, God must have much bigger plans than our minds can comprehend. Even though we may not understand, and your grief is almost too much to bear, I know that God doesn’t make mistakes and we must rely on our faith to get through. Depend on your family and friends to help you through your grief. And please know that I am a friend you can turn to at any time. Please call me if you can think of any way I can help. It is hard for me to hear about this, it brings tears to my eyes. She was a one of a kind person that I will remember forever. I will miss her greatly.

  63. As Theresa is at this moment singing solo’s in the heavenly choir, we left behind will feel a vast void for a long time to come as a result of her earthly presence in our lives. However, my prayers are for you to take comfort in the infinite blessings she left behind in the way she touched all our lives with her enthusiasm, joy, selfless giving, and non-conditional Christian love. 69. I will always remember Theresa’s smile, warmth, and beautiful voice. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Work will not be the same without her. God bless your family and you will be in my prayers.

  70. My deepest sympathy to a well loved family. Theresa was not only a loving mother, she was a very kind hearted, loving person. My mother Trish Wilson worked with Theresa in the PACU at mission. If there would ever be anyone other than my mother to answer the side door in the break room, I always hoped it would be Theresa. There were many times I stopped by and shared a laugh or two with her before my mother returned from taking a patient to their room. I know that I will surely miss the face that was always warm and smiling behind that door. I can seriously say that Theresa was one woman who was devoted to her family. I have never heard someone talk so much and with so much passion about their family. There are many things in this world that are so hard to remember and are forgotten. Theresa will never be something that is forgotten, and will always be remembered in my heart along with the many others whose life she has touched.

  71. Theresa was a great person and dear friend to us. She be missed by everyone that she had contact with. 79. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Theresa but once and the impression she left with myself and my wife is lasting. She was so full of life and love that being in her presence was truly a gift from God. The only solace I and others can take in this tragic event, I guess, is that Theresa is now in a place that deserves her.

I only met Theresa once but I can honestly say that I will deeply miss her.

To my cousin Todd, I have not the gift of words to adequately express my sense of loss to you. Donica and I send our love and prayers.

There are absolutely no words that can express my sympathy to you. What a joy to know Theresa. I enjoyed talking to her so much when she came to Enka Middle to pick up Seth and Justin. She was such a wonderful and willing volunteer when it came time for Band Festival. I could always count on her. I especially admired her faith in the Lord. I know she was a dedicated Christian and was very proud of her faith. This I will always cherish. Knowing she is with our Lord is such a comfort. Theresa was a wonderful lady. Your family will be in my prayers.
