Terrie Ann Starnes Henderson, 92, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025.

An Asheville native, Terrie was a daughter of the late Charley and Lillie Mae Morgan Starnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Caldwell Henderson; sister, Mary Elizabeth Starnes Atkinson; and brother, Charles M. Starnes.

She retired from JCPenny. She was also a longtime member of West Asheville Baptist Church and was deeply involved in many activities. She sang in the choir, served as church host, and cooked Wednesday night supper at the church for many years. She adored children and worked for many years in the church’s childcare program, as well. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and sharing those quilts with her loved ones.

Mrs. Henderson will be remembered as a loving wife and grandmother who deeply loved her entire family. She is survived by nephew, Mark Atkinson (Gail); step-daughter, Anne Motley (Gary); granddaughters, Amy Motley, Katie Motley, and Sarah Motley; step-son, Thomas Caldwell Henderson, Jr. (Claudia); nieces, Dr. Sally Elizabeth Atkinson, Linda Atkinson Benton (Ron), and Kim Cabe; nephew, Greg Starnes (Kim); and many other great-nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Tony Hooper and Pastor Gail Atkinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Asheville Baptist Church Early Learning Center, 926 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.

  4. Miss Terrie was so wonderful to our children when they attended the daycare .she was a true blessing. My deepest sympathy and condolences to her family at this time. Heaven sure gained an angel on earth.
