Sylvia Ruble Morris, 82, of Black Mountain, NC, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, December 28, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles Weymon Morris, Jr., her sons Charles Howard Morris of Talofofo, Guam, Jerome Weymon Morris and his wife, Diane Harrell Morris of Black Mountain, NC, grandsons Michael Brock Morris and his wife Emily Gschwind Morris of Greenville, NC, Stephen Lee Morris, of Sandy Springs, GA, and Joseph Weymon Morris of Black Mountain. Sylvia was born in Moss Point, MS and grew up in Georgetown, SC where she met her husband Charles of Andrews, SC. They moved to Western North Carolina in the late 50s. Sylvia was a Registered Nurse, specializing in Labor and Delivery, and her last job was at Mission/St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville, NC, in the mid-80s. She was a Sunday school teacher and taught a Bible class (known as "the Wednesday Bible Class") in the 70s and 80s. She and her husband were longtime members of Cornerstone Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Asheville and most recently at Christ Community Church in Montreat. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Long Shoals Rd., Arden, with the Rev. Richard White officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Churchyard Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

  7. Mr. Morris, Charlie and Jerry you are all in my thoughts and prayers. What a wonderful woman! I have so many great memories of Sylvia. I will mourn with you, but I will also celebrate her life and look forward to spending eternity with her in the presence of our Lord.

  8. I am so sorry for your loss. The pain of death can be overwhelming no matter the age. The Bible provides comfort during difficult times. We are promised at 1 Corinthians 15:26 that,very soon now, ‘death will be brought to nothing’. Then we have the prospect of being reunited with our loved one right here on Earth (John 5:28,29) without any wickedness (Psalms 37: 10,11). I hope this brings you comfort and hope.
