Sylvia Jean Peele Dawson, 85, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Dawson was born on October 17, 1935, in Charlotte, to the late Margaret W. and Gilbert E. Peele. She lived most her life in Buncombe Co. and was a current member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Sylvia was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid bowler and member of the “Tuesday Morning Coffee League” at Sky Lanes Bowling Center for many years. Her crafting, sewing and cooking talents were enjoyed and appreciated widely by her friends and family.
Sylvia was married to the late John L. Dawson, who died on September 30, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty P. Winn.
She is survived by her sons, Darren Dawson and Michael Dawson (Kim) of Candler; grandchildren, Matt Dawson (Erin) and Katie Dawson Sorrells (Travis); great-grandsons, Ty and Kase Sorrells and Pierce Dawson; brother, Bill Peele; sister, Roberta P. Davern; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park, Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Bynum Orr and Pastor Ben Heise will officiate.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pisgah Villa and Manor for the care given during her later years and illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pole Creek Baptist Church, ITT Building projects.

Mike, Gene and I are so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was a sweet lady. Prayers for comfort for all of the family.

Mike,Darren and family we are so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. We had so many wonderful times with her she was one in a million. There will never be another Sylvia. It is so sad to think that all of the originals are gone they were once in a lifetime group. So thankful they were in our life.
