Shirley Jean Truscott Penland, 85, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021.

A native of Negaunee, MI, Shirley was a daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude Gale Truscott. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dennie William Penland; sister, Mildred Peterson; and brothers, Leonard, Arthur and Donald Truscott.

Mrs. Penland retired from the Asheville Housing Authority as a project manager. She was a member of Montmorenci United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Conner Miller (Danny) and Denise Parlier (Greg); sister, Margaret Strebel; brothers, Terry Truscott (DeeAnn) and Bill Truscott; five grandchildren, Chad Conner (Christin), Chase Conner (Lisa), Daniel Parlier, Daryl Parlier, and Danika Miller; four great-grandchildren, Billy, Tabitha, Rena and Reagan Conner; one great-great-granddaughter, Rosalie Luther; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor Karen Kurtz will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Montmorenci United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 610, Candler, NC 28715.
