Sherry Gryle

sherry gryle

April 29, 1946 ~ October 18, 2022

Born in: Asheville, NC
Resided in: Arden, NC

Sherry Martin Gryle, 76, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Mission Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Gryle was born on April 29, 1946, in Asheville, NC, to the late Paul Martin, Sr., and Naomi Rash Martin.

Sherry was diagnosed with Polio at the tender age of 3 and although this caused physical challenges, she never complained and didn’t allow it to stop her from living a full life. She was a devoted wife to David, having just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on October 15th. She worked a full-time job as mother to three loving sons. She had a green thumb that put most gardeners to shame. She was an avid reader, loved crafting, playing games, listening to country music, and watching her TV “stories.” She was a collector of Dolls, Roosters and Mery Moo Moos. We would be remiss if we did not mention her love for Nascar Legend, Dale Earnhardt, with whom she shared the same birthday.

She is survived by her husband, David Gryle; three sons, Tim Gryle, Jon Gryle and Matthew Gryle (Jenni); a brother, Paul Martin, Jr. (Sheila); a sister, Sheila Ponder (Terry); nieces and nephews, Scott Martin, Shannon Messer, Greg Martin, Jeremy McElrath and Britani Gillespie, and her beloved cats.

The family would like to offer a special “Thank You” to Rob Minge for running countless errands, cooking dinners and being an integral part of the family.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 23rd at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Roger Rearden officiating. Graveside service to follow at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher.

  5. Sherry was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She was always so full of joy and so fun to be around. It was always a treat to be invited to share a meal at her table. She will be greatly missed. My prayers are with all of the family during this time of grief. Love you all.

  6. She Is Not Gone
Ease your grief, she is not gone,
For in your heart she lingers on.
Her smile, her laugh, her special way,
Will comfort you from day to day.
You’ll feel her presence in the breeze,
That dances gently, through the trees,
And it’s her face that you will see,
When you’re in need of company.
At any time, you can recall,
The love you shared, you saved it all.
And in time, more than anything,
    You’ll find peace in remembering.
