  1. I just learned of Debbie’s death. We visited with her Christmas of 02. She was in good spirits and made us feel good about her recovery. I met Debbie when she owned the beauty salon here in Durham. Her fascination with law enforcement was contagious. She would ask me constantly what was it like to be an officer and that she was considering becoming an officer.
She was determined to be an officer and when she finally became an Officer, the satisfaction and joy and pride she felt can’t be describe. We went to visit her after she passed the physical test for Asheville PD and she was literally oozing with pride. Also on that visit took she us to get our second dog, who we still have with us today. She loved her job she loved being an officer and she loved Asheville PD. Debbie was a good soul. I and my partner will miss her dearly.
    Peace to all.

  6. My condolences to Debbie’s loved ones. Her police friends kept me up-to-date on her progress this last year. Through them, I came to know her as more than Sgt. Haines. I came to admire her inner strengths and concern for others as she battled her illness. She is missed already.

  13. Debbie was my very best friend growing up. Loved her to pieces!! She always made us laugh! Oh the stories I could tell you!! One memory was when Debbie and i wanted to start our own band with 2 other girls. We all came with our instruments to her home in Weston. Took us 2 hours to figure out the band name, but none of us knew how to play our instruments, Debbie on the drums. So Mr. Haines came in to help us. He recorded us all singing! Such a riot! hahahahaha! Debbie and I went out for Halloween every year! Hysterical! We always got sprayed with shaving cream, hahaha! My time with Debbie was always sooooooo funny. Loved her so much!!! Miss you Deb!!
