Scott Ray Yarborough, 42, of 621 N. Luther Road, Candler, died unexpectedly Monday, May 16, 2005, of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. Mr. Yarborough was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Bobby H. Yarborough. He played Little League football and wrestled for Enka High School, winning several trophies under Coach Jim Whitmire, his coach and friend. After graduation from Enka High School in 1981 he traveled west to Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Oklahoma and Alaska working for various major oil companies. More recently he was the owner and operator of Yarborough Tree Services. He was an avid hunter and his happiest times were those spent with his son Scotty in tree stands. Surviving are his son, the love of his life, Scott Ray Yarborough, Jr. of Candler; his mother and step-father Barbara Miller Gosnell and Larry Gosnell; his special partner Karla Rice; his sister, Cindy Fuller and her husband David of Knoxville, TN; three brothers, Larry Yarborough and his wife Melanie of Dallas, NC, Darren Yarborough of Candler and Steven Yarborough of Asheville, and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Austin officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Yarborough, Kevin Childers, Philip Lowry, David Wise, Stanley McElrath, and Jeff Erwin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Whitmire, Earl Wise, Darren Yarborough and Larry Yarborough. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

( 12 to 16) Scott was the one crush in my life that I never told anyone including him about. He will always be my hero and one of my childhood friends.   13. I would like to send my condolences to the family! I have known Scotty for a few years, and every time he came into Dollar General, when I worked there he would always offer a hello and a smile.
    My husbands brother new Scotty for many years more than I did, and he always said that he really cared about Scott, and he tried to work hard for him when he would work with Scotty.

    I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Scott. Scott befriended me as a freshman in Enka highschool and I have many fond and fun memories of the times we spent together. He was deeply committed to whatever he did. I saw this commitment manifested in his love of sports, his many friends, and his work. I know his son will also have these characteristics and qualities to carry on. Scott will be greatly missed and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to know and love him.

I haven’t seen him since high school but he was a great guy and an excellent wrestler. I was a matmaid which was a cheerleader for wrestlers when your Dad wrestled. He was one of those people that no matter what kind of day he was having he always would try to make you feel better with a smile and an act of kindness that made you feel special.   38. My memories of Scott are from high school. He could make a person laugh on their worst days. And no wrestling match was ever boring if Scott was around. He was a great guy, although he is gone far too soon.

  52. To the family of Scott, you have my deepest condolances. I have fond memories of playing little league football with Scott. He was our ‘go to’ guy. If the coach needed someone to fill in a postition, he was the one to go to. I had only seen him a couple of times since graduation but he was just as steady those times as when I first came to know him. Having heard of his death it made me realize just how short life is and that every moment is precious.
