Samuel Jasper Nesbitt, 62, of Fairview, died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at his residence, where he was surrounded by his loving family. A native of Buncombe County, he was born on October 19, 1945 to the late Andy Roscoe and Elizabeth Wright Nesbitt. Mr. Nesbitt was a member of Nesbitt’s Chapel Methodist Church. He was the owner of Nesbitt Masonry and was well liked and respected in the area. Sam served his country in the armed forces as a military policeman and was also a member of Bass-N-Buddies. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Jo Whitaker Nesbitt; three sons, Samuel Nesbitt, Jr. and his wife, Brooke of Maryville, TN, Matthew Nesbitt and his wife, Amanda of Fairview, and Adam Nesbitt of Fairview; three grandchildren, Natalie Nesbitt, Lincoln Nesbitt and Phoenix Jarvis; five sisters, Nannie Randolph, Louise Bishop, Lettie Gentle, Ruby Swink and Barbara Banks and two brothers, David Nesbitt and Bill Nesbitt. He is also survived by his lifelong special friend, Brownie Marlowe. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, December 3, 2007 in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Revs. Chester Owenby and Robert Harris officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening immediately following the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Nesbitt’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

I could not have ask for a better uncle, althought when I was a young boy Tom, Bill, and Sam aggravated the daylights out of me telling me I had girl shoes and silly stuff like that, as I grew into a man it was these same men that always made me always feel apart of them and gave me strong images to look up to.     I will always rememebr Sam as the crazy fun loving guy my husband and I used to ride bikes with. He had a love for life and loved the outdoors.

  7. when my sister’s and i were small, our mom would drive by ‘Spivey’s Fishing Lake’ and all of us would sing; ‘Sam, Sam, he’s our man if he can’t catch them Bill can!’ my uncle Sam was the best uncle to all of his neice’s and nephew’s and an awesome brother to ALL his brothers and sisters, a loving, wonderful husband and father.. we will miss you dearly uncle Sam!

  11. Plain,simple,honest describes my Uncle Sam. Never out to hurt anybody or anything. I remember playing hide and seek and redman,such good memories.If there were more people like you, this world would be a better place. Giving you up is hard, but knowing you are resting peacefully, no more pain is a comfort.

  14. I’ll miss my friend, Sam. He helped me build our dream log home in Fairview, though he had never done one just like this before. His work pleased the foundation people very much. He will be missed by many, I am sure.
