Samuel Hayward Teel, 89, of Windsor Rd., died peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2012, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
Mr. Teel was born March 13, 1923 in Grantville, GA, son of the late Lonzer L. and Mallie Howard Teel.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during WW II as an M.P. three years in India on the Lido Road. After his service during WWII, he moved to Columbus, GA, and in 1948 married the love of his life, Ann Steadham.
For 35 years, Mr. Teel worked for G.M.A.C and ended his career as manager of the Asheville office. He loved golfing, fishing, and college football and basketball. Caring for his wife and children was always his primary concern.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann; sister, Hazel Oswald of Macon, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Dennis McNeal of Pawleys Island, SC; two sons, Sam Teel Jr., and Carey Teel and his wife, Teresa, of Asheville; three grandchildren, Anna, Jesse, and Bailee; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.
A memorial service for Sam will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Asheville, with the Revs. Guy Sayles and Leah Brown officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

We are so very sorry to hear of Sam’s passing. We always enjoyed hearing him talk Carolina Athletics, especially with ‘Pop’ (Pete).
I remember Sam Teel’s wonderful smile and friendly, most gentlemanly presence at church and the golf course.
